Lowest Team Score in IPL

Which team has the lowest score in IPL

RCB hold a record they would happily give away. RCB went all out at 49 against KKR in 2017, and none of the IPL side has fallen below that total since. So many years but, it still remains the lowest team score in IPL history, even after the 2026 season.

For readers following IPL records on the Khelosports Platform, the 49 is interesting for another reason. RCB had Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers in that batting order. But still the whole innings was just alive for 9.4 overs exactly.

RCB's 49 Is Still the Lowest Team Score in IPL

The match took place at Eden Gardens on Apr. 23, 2017. KKR went in first and hit 131, which looked like a fairly modest target at that period of time.

RCB chase went wrong almost immediately.

Virat Kohli edged Nathan Coulter-Nile to second slip on the first ball he faced. Mandeep Singh followed in the next over, while ABD was also back even before RCB could reach 15.

There was no recovery after that.

Kedar Jadhav top-scored with only eight runs. RCB were eventually dismissed for 49, giving KKR an 82-run victory. The official IPL match report still lists it as the league's lowest total.

That RCB lowest total becomes even harder to believe when you look at the batting names involved.

Why Did RCB Collapse So Badly?

This was not simply a case of several batters playing poor shots. KKR seamers worked the conditions to good effect, nipping the ball away and attacking the stumps

Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes, and Colin de Grandhomme all took three wickets, while Umesh Yadav claimed the other.

The chase also never had time to settle. Once Kohli, Mandeep and de Villiers went early, each new batter walked into a worse situation.

RCB were 40/6 before seven overs had finished. From there, reaching even 100 looked unlikely.

Lowest Scores in IPL History

RCB's 49 sits at the top of the list, but several other teams have endured similar collapses.

Rank Team Score Opponent Year
1 RCB 49 KKR 2017
2 RR 58 RCB 2009
3 RR 59 RCB 2023
4 DD 66 MI 2017
5 DD 67 Kings XI Punjab 2017
6 KKR 67 MI 2008
7 RCB 68 SRH 2022
8 RCB 70 CSK 2019
9 RCB 70 RR 2014
10 Kings XI Punjab 73 Rising Pune Supergiant 2017

These remain the leading lowest scores in IPL history through the completed 2026 season. Rajasthan came closest to RCB record of 58 vs them in Bengaluru in 2009. They were then all out for 59 by the same opponent in 2023.

RCB Appear More Than Once on the List: Lowest Team Score in IPL

The 49 gets most of the attention, but it is not RCB's only low total. They were bowled out for 68 against SRH in 2022.

Those results explain why searches for RCB worst records often lead straight to batting collapses.

There is a strange contrast here, though. RCB have also produced some of the biggest batting performances in IPL history. A team known for powerful batters still owns the lowest IPL score by a team.

That difference is part of what makes the 49 so memorable

Did IPL 2026 come close to breaking the record

DC were bundled out for a mere 75 in reply to RCB's score. The inning saw Delhi slip to 13/6 at one stage before they eventually managed to post 75. The total entered the wider list of IPL's lowest completed innings, but it was still 26 runs above RCB's record.

So, even after another full season of IPL cricket, nobody has seriously threatened 49.

That says plenty about how unusual the 2017 collapse really was.

A Team that is Always the Talk of Town

RR have two scores below 60, which is unusual on its own. Delhi's old Daredevils side also had two major collapses during the 2017 season, scoring 66 and 67.

Still, nothing has gone below 50.

That keeps the lowest team score in IPL firmly attached to RCB.

Why the 49 Record Still Stands Out

Plenty of IPL records change as batting becomes faster and totals grow. This one has survived since 2017.

RCB's 49 was not set by a weak batting side. Kohli, Gayle and de Villiers were all part of the lineup, which makes the collapse even more striking. This makes them to always be on the discussion point.

For Khelosports readers checking the record today, the answer remains simple. RCB have the lowest team score in IPL, with 49 all out against KKR at Eden Gardens. Until another team falls below that mark, it remains one of the IPL's most surprising records.
